Scientific Instrumentation for Localized Electrochemistry

Sensolytics develops scientific instrumentation for researchers who need to investigate electrochemical processes locally rather than relying solely on bulk measurements. Our systems are designed to resolve spatially heterogeneous phenomena at surfaces and interfaces with high precision, reproducibility, and experimental flexibility.

Our technology portfolio includes scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM), scanning droplet cell (SDC) systems, probes, sample preparation equipment, electrochemical cells, and a range of complementary accessories and experimental platforms for advanced electrochemical research.

By combining electrochemistry, precision mechanics, electronics, and application-driven engineering, Sensolytics develops instruments that support demanding research in corrosion science, catalysis, coatings, functional materials, energy materials, and life science-related substrates.

Dr. Thomas Erichsen

Dr. Thomas Erichsen ORCID logo

Executive Director & Founder

Dr. Thomas Erichsen is the Executive Director and Founder of Sensolytics GmbH. He received his Dr. rer. nat. in Analytical Chemistry at Ruhr University Bochum in 2002 after completing his doctoral research on the development of instruments and biosensors for process control in the research group of Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schuhmann. His scientific background combines analytical chemistry with the development of advanced electrochemical instrumentation, with particular expertise in biosensors, electrochemical sensors, micro- and nanoelectrochemistry, and localized electrochemical measurement technologies.

Dr. Michaela Nebel

Dr. Michaela Nebel ORCID logo

Product Manager

Dr. Michaela Nebel is the Product Manager Electrochemistry at Sensolytics GmbH since 2013 and works on the development of new instruments in the field of scanning electrochemical microscopy. She started her doctoral studies in the group of Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schuhmann focused on high-resolution scanning electrochemical microscopy for the investigation of local catalytic activity, recieving her PhD in 2012. Focusing on tailored solutions, she can call on her expertise in various fields of local electrochemistry, ranging from corrosion and catalyst sciences, biological applications as well as spectro- and nanoelectrochemistry.

Dr. Giada Caniglia

Product Marketing Manager

Dr. Giada Caniglia is the Product Marketing Manager at Sensolytics GmbH since 2026. She completed her PhD in Natural Sciences at Ulm University in the group of apl. Prof. Dr. Christine Kranz. Her research focused on the localized investigation of biotic and abiotic surfaces and interfaces using scanning probe microscopies, including scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM), scanning electrochemical cell microscopy (SECCM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and combined AFM-SECM. Her work spanned applications ranging from single-bacterium studies and microbiological specimens to corrosion science and photocatalysis.

Dr. Tsvetan Tarnev

Product and Software Developer

Dr. Tsvetan Tarnev has been a product and software developer at Sensolytics GmbH since 2020. He studied chemistry at the Ruhr University Bochum and earned his Ph.D. in the research group of Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schuhmann. During his doctoral studies, he worked with electrochemical scanning probe techniques and focused in particular on the construction, modification, and software development of SECM and SECCM instruments to enable specific complex experimental procedures. His scientific expertise lies in local electrochemistry, nanoelectrochemistry, and electrocatalysis research.
